After my residency I worked as College Lecturer in Equine Surgery at UCD for several years before moving to Denmark to the University of Copenhagen. I have since worked in private and academic practice and after 11 years at the Weipers Centre Equine Hospital in Glasgow, I have recently taken up the position of Senior Lecturer in Surgery at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. I am a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and a European and RCVS recognized specialist in equine surgery. Patrick is involved with a number of projects around the world with working equidae, including training vets and equid owners in resource limited settings. My clinical and research interests include equine poor performance, the upper airway, ophthalmic surgery, trauma and wound healing and I have been instrumental in the development and validation of the technique of overground endoscopy. Although I am principally a surgeon, I have a range of experience with exotic, zoo animals and wildlife, and served as a trustee and veterinary director of the Irish Seal for many years. In addition to this I am a keen Bee Keeper and introduced the teaching of Bee husbandry and disease to the undergraduate veterinary curriculum.
