Dr. Jimmy Johnson is a Board Certified Specialist in Zoological Medicine, currently serving as Staff Veterinarian at the Saint Louis Zoo and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Preventative Medicine at the Ohio State University. He received his DVM from the Ohio State University, then went on to complete an internship in zoological medicine at Louisiana State University followed by a combined clinical residency and graduate program in zoo and aquatic animal medicine through the University of Illinois, Brookfield Zoo, and Shedd Aquarium. He earned his MS with major research evaluating health and microbial ecology in stingrays. Dr. Johnson is a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM) and a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian by the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association (WAVMA). He is active in clinical zoo and aquatic animal medicine and research, with special interests in novel therapeutics, microbial ecology, diagnostic imaging, dentistry, conservation science and wildlife health assessment, leadership, and veterinary education and training. Dr. Johnson is also an active member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), serving as Veterinary Advisor for the Binturong Species Survival Plan and as Co-Veterinary Advisor for the Small Carnivore Taxon Advisory Group. He is also an instructor in the AZA Professional Development Course 'Principles of Ambassador Animal Management.'
