Pieter qualified in 2001 from Ghent University in Belgium, after which he joined the staff at the University, completing an Internship in Small Animal Surgery. In 2003, he joined a small animal practice in the UK, where he was responsible for Small Animal Surgery for almost 4 years. During this time he gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. In 2007, he joined DWR, initially as an Intern prior to commencing a 3-year Residency in Small Animal Surgery, which he completed in 2010. In 2011, he was appointed Clinical Fellow in Small Animal Surgery and in 2014, he passed his ECVS exam. Pieter has published several articles on a soft tissue surgery and anaesthesia topics. He has written book chapters on feline reconstructive surgery and canine emergency uterine and vaginal disorders. He enjoys all aspects of surgery but has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, ENT and cardiothoracic surgery.
